Week 6: From My Vault: 6 Movies Watched

Continuing my weekly series where I go through my impressively large collection (1,054 titles) of DVDs and Blu-Rays. I have been neglecting older movies for new ones, so I’m going through and re-watching everything from my vault. I have the films divided into categories: General, Series, Classics, Kids, Shakespeare, and Documentary. I’m starting with General.

The ‘Burbs (1989)

Why You Should You Watch This: A funny tale about new neighbors and jumping to conclusions with classic Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher.

Baby Driver (2017)

Format: Blu-ray  Special Features: Behind the scenes, interview, and commentary
Last Time Watched: Within the last three months
Originally Viewed: Theater
Comments After Re-Watching: This movie is easy to watch over and over again.
Why You Should You Watch This: One of the best films of 2017. It’s a heist movie with great characters, filmmaking choices, and an addictive soundtrack.

Baseketball (1998)

Format: DVD  Special Features: Interview
Last Time Watched: Within the last ten years
Originally Viewed: Rental
Comments After Re-Watching: While parts of the movie hold up better than others, some of the jokes are still hilarious.
Why You Should You Watch This: The combination of comedy styles (Airplane! and South Park) works well in making visual jokes that make you laugh.

Beautiful Girls (1996)

Format: DVD  Special Features: None
Last Time Watched: Within the last ten years
Originally Viewed: Rental
Comments After Re-Watching: This doesn’t hold up well and you have a hard time liking/rooting for any of the characters except for Uma Thurman.
Why You Should You Watch This: The performances by a stellar cast including a very young Natalie Portman are worth watching.

Becoming Jane (2007)

Format: DVD   Special Features: Behind the scenes, interview, and commentary
Last Time Watched: Within the last five years
Originally Viewed: Theater
Comments After Re-Watching: Once you let go that this movie isn’t based on any reality, it is a love story worth watching.
Why You Should You Watch This: The performances, story, and characters are fantastic if you ignore the based on a true story part.

Bedazzled (2000)

Format: DVD  Special Features: None
Last Time Watched: Within the last ten years
Originally Viewed: Rental
Comments After Re-Watching: The dialog and performances are not the best, but there is something oddly charming about it.
Why You Should You Watch This: It is a good story about how reality is better than fantasy because it never does play out the way you want. The cast provides solid performances despite the corny script.

Another week’s selection with more randomness of the types of movies I own. Come back next week to see what I watched next.
