I am participating in the Get Rec’d: A Movie/TV/Book List Challenge and this is the twenty-second week’s entry. I have decided to be bold and list a response for all three categories; a movie, a television show, and a book.
Week 22: Met The Creator (Q&A or Autograph)
Movie: Edgar Wright
Movies Directed: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The World’s End, and Baby Driver
The very first time I saw Edgar Wright speak at Comic-Con International: San Diego in 2006, he was promoting Hot Fuzz. The same convention had the Ant-Man announcement saying he would be directing. This happened long before Iron Man had come out. Later, he would bow out of the project.

The next time I saw him speak was at a Hot Fuzz Q&A at the Arclight theater in Hollywood. The third and (so far) the last time happened at the Arclight when promoting the Spaced TV series DVD release. It was at this Q&A where I had all my DVDs signed.
I did run into him a movie screening which was the red carpet for The Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton version). I said hello and babbled about looking forward to buying Spaced once it comes out in the States. Then I turned, tripped and spilled my entire bucket of popcorn in front of him and the packed theater. Good times.
Television: Joss Whedon
TV Shows Created: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse
I’ve heard Joss Whedon speak four different times at San Diego Comicon. The first time was in a small room and as the years have gone on the rooms have gotten bigger and bigger. His stories are always entertaining. Sadly, I don’t have anything signed by him.
The video below shows one of my favorite Joss moments from a 2006 convention. Geek-Week spotted him walking the convention floor. Instead of trying to do a proper interview, they turned it into an improv moment, and Joss rolled with the gag.
Book: Patrick Rothfuss
Books Written: The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1), The Wise Man’s Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #2), The Slow Regard of Silent Things (The Kingkiller Chronicle #2.5), The Thing Beneath the Bed (The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle #1), and The Dark of Deep Below (The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle #2)
I’ve heard Patrick Rothfuss speak three times so far. The first was at the University of Washington Bookstore during The Wise Man’s Fear book tour. Pat drank three coffees during the hour-long Q&A session as pictured below.
Pat told many funny stories and gave away as little as possible on what would happen in the final part of the trilogy. He signed my copy of both The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear.
I’ve since heard him speak at the last few Emerald City Comicons. I captured a particularly significant expression of his feelings when people ask him when the next book will be coming out.
While I want the final installment, I don’t want it rushed, and I don’t want it to end.
Coming Up Next
Next week will be “Looking Forward To The Future”
