Week 3: From My Vault: 5 Movies Watched

Continuing my weekly series where I go through my impressively large collection (1,054 titles) of DVDs and Blu-Rays. I have been neglecting older movies for new ones, so I’m going through and re-watching everything from my vault. I have the films divided into categories: General, Series, Classics, Kids, Shakespeare, and Documentary. I’m starting with General.

The Accountant (2016)

Format: Blu-ray  Special Features: Behind the scenes and interviews
Last Time Watched: When it was in the theater
Originally Viewed: Theater
Comments After Re-Watching: The movie contains a lot of little details throughout that pop more upon multiple viewings. They set everything up for a sequel, but I doubt it did well enough to make one.
Why You Should You Watch This: It has a solid story, good characters, well-chosen actors, and is fun to watch. While it is no John Wick, there are many satisfying kills.

Adventures In Babysitting (1987)

Format: DVD  Special Features: None
Last Time Watched: More than ten years ago
Originally Viewed: Cable
Comments After Re-Watching: No offense to Chris Hemsworth, but this movie still has my favorite Thor.
Why You Should You Watch This: While a bit dated with the lack of cell phones and credit cards, the movie holds up and moves fast. Every scene moves character or plot along.

Airplane! (1980)

Format: Blu-ray  Special Features: Behind the scenes, trivia track and interviews
Last Time Watched: Over twenty years ago
Originally Viewed: Cable
Comments After Re-Watching: I watched it with the trivia track on because I feared that some of the jokes would be references I didn’t get. I was wrong. The movie was still funny, but I don’t think I ever understood the “drinking problem” joke until this viewing.
Why You Should You Watch This: The Zucker Brothers set the gold standard for how to make a parody movie. Even without knowing the specific films it is making fun of, Airplane brings the funny.

Alien Trespass (2009)

Format: DVD  Special Features: Behind the scenes and interviews
Last Time Watched: When it came out
Originally Viewed: Rental
Comments After Re-Watching: Another parody film that does a bang-up job making fun of 1950s low budget sci-fi movies.
Why You Should You Watch This: If you like the old school movies, you will enjoy this one. It has everything; cheap special effects, clunky dialog, mismatched stock footage with close-ups, and unintended comedy (although, it was intended in this movie).

All of Me (1984)

Format: DVD  Special Features: None
Last Time Watched: More than fifteen years ago
Originally Viewed: Cable
Comments After Re-Watching: I didn’t realize Carl Reiner directed this.
Why You Should You Watch This: The movie is literally about combining two comedic geniuses into the same body. Why wouldn’t you watch this?

Another week’s selection with more randomness of the types of movies I own. Come back next week to see what I watched next.

Have you seen any of these movies? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section!
