10 Gift Ideas Under $20 For Book Nerds, Movie Geeks, And TV Fans

Are you debating what to get your family member, friend, or co-worker as a gift? Are they into movies, television, books or geeky/nerdy things in general?

Look no further! Below are some suggestions with handy links that take you straight to Amazon.com. These items are off the beaten path, so you don’t have to worry about them receiving multiples from other people.

The Book Nerds

Knock Knock Personal Library Kit

Not only do I own this, but I’ve also bought it for others. The kit is not only fun to play with, but with the clear case, it displays well on the shelf.

BabyLit Primer Books

No matter what your age, the BabyLit books are perfect. They take classic novels and turn them into books for pre-schoolers to learn counting, colors, weather, etc. I have a complete set, but the two I buy the most for other people are Pride and Prejudice and Moby Dick. The artwork is lovely and smart.

You’re All Just Jealous of My Jetpack

These literary and Sci-Fi cartoons are both perfect and hilarious. You have no doubt seen them floating around the internet. This book currently resides on my coffee table, and I have his other books, Baking With Kafka and The Snooty Bookshop: Fifty Literary Postcards, on my wishlist.

Infographic Guide to Literature

Another staple of my coffee table books, a breakdown of classic novels into fun infographics as a colorful way to look at an old favorite.

The Movie Geeks

Vanity Prop License Plate

This company re-creates license plates from movies and TV shows. Their catalog is massive. I have purchased two for people so far: this one (Ferris Bueller) and one from the original Halloween.

Funko Vinyl Idolz: Willy Wonka-Willy Wonka Action Figure

Vinyl Idolz created a whole bunch of different characters in this style that Funko distributes. Besides the fun look of the figure, the box design allows you to take them out and put them back without damaging the box. Other characters in this series that I own: Young Frankenstein (also sold separately) and Back to the Future. The ones on my wishlist include Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Say Anything and Stan Lee.

The Goonies Playing Cards Collector’s Set

Albino Dragon makes playing cards based on movies and television shows. The Goonies set comes in a beautiful display box with a coin that makes for a unique collector’s item. I discovered them on their Kickstarter projects. Besides this deck, I own The Princess Bride, Ghostbusters, and The Name of the Wind.

The Television Fans

Doctor Who – Adipose Plush

No matter who their favorite Doctor is, they will love this huggable piece of happy fat. This character comes from an episode in Season 4 of Doctor Who where people lose a pound of fat every day, and it turns into this little guy. He is the perfect company for Doctor Who marathons.

Futurama – Planet Express Ship Model

This particular model was exclusive through LootCrate which is how I received mine. Happily, it’s available on Amazon. The size is perfect to sit on a bookshelf. Lootcrate itself is also a great gift idea.

FireflySerenity Hull Dedication Display Plaque

This plaque was also a LootCrate exclusive, but for their Firefly specialty crate. The plate has a solid metal feel to it and works perfectly on a shelf or display with other Firefly or Serenity merchandise. Any Browncoat would love to have this in their collection.
