Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film March Madness 2019 Brackets – My Picks For Section Four

I’m not a sports fan, but I do enjoy variations of picking March Madness brackets for movies, books, and TV shows. This year the evil, cruel, beautiful people at io9.com came up with a bracket for “What’s The Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film of the Last Ten Years.”

This was not at all easy to do. I felt physical pain in deciding between some of them. I thought I would show you my list and I would justify my choices. There are four sections total, and then those four winners would compete. Below is the fourth section.

You can see the first section picks HERE. You can see the second section picks HERE. You can see the third section picks HERE.

Round 1

Bracket 1: Attack the Block vs. The Hunger Games

My Pick: The Hunger Games
Reason: I read the books for The Hunger Games and had more invested in it than Attack the Block.

Bracket 2: Looper vs. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

My Pick: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Reason: Do not get me wrong. I loved Looper, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier outranks it without question.

Bracket 3: Cabin in the Woods vs. Captain America: The First Avenger

My Pick: Cabin in the Woods
Reason: As much as I love Cap, I saw Cabin in the Woods three times in the movie theater, have listened to the commentary track more than once, and begged for them to do a comic book series where each of the monsters was picked.

Bracket 4: Your Name vs. Only Lovers Left Alive

My Pick: Only Lovers Left Alive
Reason: I did not see Your Name, but regardless Only Lovers Left Alive is brilliant.

Bracket 5: The Martian vs. Under the Skin

My Pick: The Martian
Reason: I did not see Under the Skin and I did not hate the adaptation of The Martian.

Bracket 6: Toy Story 3 vs. Zootopia

My Pick: Zootopia
Reason: Toy Story 3 is the weak link of the franchise and I quote and use gifs from Zootopia regularly.

Bracket 7: The Witch vs. What We Do in the Shadows

My Pick: What We Do in the Shadows
Reason: I didn’t see The Witch and vampires don’t do dishes.

Bracket 8: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse vs. X-Men: Days of Future Past

My Pick: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Reason: X-Men franchise has lost its way and Spider-Man is building a new one.

Round 2

Bracket 1The Hunger Games vs. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

My Pick: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Reason: No contest (pun intended).

Bracket 2: Cabin in the Woods vs. Only Lovers Left Alive

My Pick: Cabin in the Woods
Reason: I hesitated a bit, but Cabin in the Woods wins.

Bracket 3: The Martian vs. Zootopia

My Pick: Zootopia
Reason: Unfair fight. If The Martian kept the opening line of the book, it might have won this round.

Bracket 4: What We Do in the Shadows vs. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

My Pick: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Reason: Another unfair fight.

Round 3

Bracket 1: Captain America: The Winter Soldier vs. Cabin in the Woods

My Pick: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Reason: This hurt. This was not an easy choice at all.

Bracket 2: Zootopia vs. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

My Pick: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Reason: Unfair fight.

Round 4

Final Bracket: Captain America: The Winter Soldier vs. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

My Pick: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Reason: Another super (pun intended) hard decision that hurts.
